📚 BWNI 2024 21-27 October 2024 📚
Book Week NI is a joint initiative celebrating the pleasures and benefits of reading, arising from the partnership between BBC Northern Ireland and Libraries NI. 📕
To celebrate Book Week NI pupils at St. Benedict's will be reading a variety of short stories from the Gothic genre in preparation for a Spooky Story competition that is taking place at Halloween. This literacy initiative has been well received at key stages 3 and 4 with many pupils developing their reading skills and honing their creative writing skills. Literature for Halloween that we would recommend to our older pupils (and adults) are The Red Room, The Tell-Tale Heart, Yellow Wallpaper, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and The Wasp Factory. 👻 🕷️ 🎃
For our younger pupils, we always recommend the Goosebumps series by R. L Stine and of course the Harry Potter series by J K Rowling. 🧙 Reading for pleasure has many great benefits for mental health and well-being, and even taking a few minutes to read each day can provide much-needed escapism and relaxation from busy, daily lives.
Look out for the #BookWeekNI hashtag during the week as many of the Book Week NI ambassadors will participate in this conversation online so make sure you get your say. https://www.librariesni.org.uk/browse-read/book-week-ni/
