Relationships and Sexual Education for Yr10

23 February 2018

Relationships and Sexuality Education is at the core of the Northern Ireland Curriculum. In accordance with ETI 2011 ‘The delivery of Relationships and Sexuality Education contributes to ‘promoting pupils’ personal growth and development and in supporting their academic achievement’.

As a faith school we adopt an holistic approach developing our young people, spiritually, physically, emotionally and academically with the Catholic ethos at the core of College life.

This week Year 10 have been involved in presentations and interactive workshops to provide them with important advice surrounding relationships and keeping themselves safe, including online. On Wednesday ‘Love for Life’ Northern Ireland’s premier and most established provider of Relationship and Sexuality Education presented their ‘Iceberg and Babies’ programme, whilst on Thursday pupils were involved in a multiagency workshop approach which included the Education Authority Child Protection Officer, PSNI and Northen Trust.

Pupils were given a selection of advice to take home and signpost to agencies that can help if they have any concerns. We would also like to remind parents/ guardians of the strong pastoral structure that is available to pupils and parents alike if they have any concerns, together with the Child Protection Officer in school Mr Mc Kendry and Deputy Designated Teacher Mrs Coulter.
